Propozition helps Rogers Stirk Harbour, Anshens win £120m Guy’s Cancer Treatment Centre competition

The RIBA-led design competition for the £120m new-build Guys & St Thomas’ Cancer Treatment  attracted nine contractors working with the world’s leading ‘starchitects’ including Foster + Partners, Zara Hadid and Hopkins Architects.

We were engaged from the outset to develop an Expression of Interest document and initial presentation that saw the number or consortia reduced to six.   After this successful initial presentation, we continued working with Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (concept architects), Anshen+Allen architects (healthcare design), Laing O’Rourke (contractor) and HCP (healthcare specialist) to articulate the design concept that would go on to win.

We video-interviewed cancer patients for their views on hospital designs, edited highlights of which became powerful evidence to support the bid idea behind the design.  We wrote the executive summary and drafted the summary materials that supported the design competition and NHS staff consultation exhibitions.

We also shaped the final interview presentation to the NHS client and the RIBA.  We helped artciulate a simple engaging story, produced the audio-visual support materials and helped the consortium team prepare to deliver a compelling and joined-up case for appointment.

Our delivery team for the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Cancer Treatment Centre was made up of two architectural practices, a building contractor and a healthcare consultancy.

As we worked together to create our submission, Propozition helped us to focus our ideas, give them consistency and present them with a single voice through video, in the documentation and in face-to-face presentations.

The RIBA report made a point of praising our final presentation.
